Inspired by weaving techniques, these works are meticulous studies on the repetition, variation and articulation of a single pattern as a means of generating a solid and cohesive surface. Whereas in weaving the individual threads are held together by interlacing, each pattern in ‘Zusammenhänge’ is connected to its adjacent ones through a micro-joint. This mechanism allows for a potential – albeit restricted – flexibility to the structure composing the motif. At the same time it suggests the fragility of the interconnections and emphasizes the importance of each part in relation to the ensemble.
