My practice explores perception as an active process through which the multitude of experiences of being in the world can be distilled through the senses in order to generate and share new knowledge. Growing up on a small island where political, social, territorial and psychological divisions are intertwined has an ongoing impact on my work.
Using a variety of media, like drawing, objects, artist-books and participatory actions, I develop research based work based on meticulous small-scale investigations of particular localities. My starting points are often small units of study such as the plants of a public garden, an isolated incident in a no-man’s land, a specific tree type or two maps of the same city. To focus on what is easily overlooked is a way to counteract generalising worldviews while highlighting the ‘particular’ in the context of larger socio-political questions.
